Our hero of the week for April 14 is John Drawdy, of Woodstock, GA. John joined us for yesterday’s Member Call-In, and apologized for missing the previous week because he had been taking his family on a seven-day Disney cruise. (Not one of those dinky three-day cruises to the Bahamas, but seven glorious fun-filled days.) In “the season” – and not just “in” the season, but the first week of April!
People outside our business just assume that this time of year is a grind. And for some of us, it really is. But it doesn’t have to be that way. This year, more than ever, I’ve seen TaxCoach members all across the country taking control of their businesses in ways they never thought possible.
There’s a member in southeast Michigan who’s tired of booking appointments six days a week until 8PM every night. So she’s not doing that anymore. She’s happier for it, and her kids are seeing more of her. Congratulations.
There’s a member in southern California who originally envisioned a nice little CPA practice for himself, with maybe a receptionist, and a part-time staffer or two during tax season. Now he’s managing an office of 12 and closing in on a million dollars of revenue. His staff jokes that all he does is talk to people all day. But he’s engineered plenty of time into his schedule for his baby grandson.
Soon the curtain will fall on Act One of 2016. You’ll get a nice little intermission, and then it’ll be time to come back to work. What are you going to do for Act Two?
If your “season” wasn’t everything you wanted it to be, it’s time to start working on 2017. They say the definition of “insanity” is doing the same thing over and over in hopes of getting a different result. (Who the heck are “they,” anyway? But “they” are right.) You can’t plan on doing the same thing next year and expect better results.
Start thinking about how you’d like to do things differently next year.
Think about how you’re going to take control of your business back from your clients.
Think about how you’re going to business on your terms – and do a better job for your clients as a result.
Think about how you’re finally going to charge what you’re worth.
